The Greenwoods Conservancy is privately owned and wholly supported by the Peterson Family Charitable Trust, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation. The Trust does not seek to raise funds from the public, nor does it receive state or federal assistance for operational and administrative costs.

It is governed by a board of trustees who in turn, are accountable to the NYS Attorney General’s office.

The stated mission of the trust is to “Create an endowed charitable trust that will provide financial support for the Greenwoods Conservancy and will provide funding for the purchase of contiguous lands and conservation easements in support of the conservancies master plan.

The trust will provide support for other conservation organizations, including national and global groups that directly, or indirectly, impact on the preservation of open space.

The trust may also support local, or broader, charitable needs including, but not limited to, education, health, societal needs and community enhancement.”
